What they stock
- Official Scouting America uniforms, for youth and adults
- Handbooks for every programme
- Advancement patches, rank badges and insignia
- Outdoor and camping gear
Stock varies. If you need something specific — a size, a particular merit badge, a bulk order for the whole den — call ahead and they will check.
Worth knowing first
Before you go
Uniform shopping is the one part of joining that catches families out, usually because they buy the wrong insignia or buy things the unit already provides.
- Ask your unit leader first. Many packs and troops hand out the neckerchief, slide and unit numerals themselves, and some keep a box of second-hand shirts. There is no point buying twice.
- Know your unit number and that you are in the East Texas Area Council — both go on the sleeve.
- Try the shirt on. Scout sizing runs differently from high street sizing, and children grow. Staff will help you judge it.
- You do not need a uniform to start. Visit a meeting first, see what the unit actually wears, then buy.
Cost a problem? Say so. Units and the council would far rather help with a uniform than lose a Scout over one. Talk to your unit leader or call the service center on 903-597-7201.
Shopping online
Everything the national shop carries is available at scoutshop.org, delivered to your door. It is the better option for anything unusual, and the only option outside opening hours — but for uniforms, sizing and a second opinion, the counter in Tyler is hard to beat.
